Parent Visa

Parent Visa (subclass 103)

The Australian parent visa (subclass 103) is exclusively available to the parents of a permanent Australian resident. To be eligible for this visa, the child must have resided in Australia for at least two years before the application is submitted for assessment. Nonetheless, in extraordinary cases, the duration required for the parent visa to be granted may be shortened. The parent visa application process seeks to ensure that parents can reunite with their children living in Australia and create a family unit, provided they meet the necessary criteria.

To be eligible for the Parent Visa in Australia, certain conditions must be met:

  • The Balance of Family Test: at least half of the applicant’s children should either be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens residing in Australia.
  • More of the applicant’s children should be residing in Australia than in any other country.
  • An eligible approved sponsor is needed.

Duration – permanent residence
Cost – from $4560 (visa fee only)
Migration Consulting Fees – a quote will be provided from the outset based on the complexity of your particular matter.
Average processing time – can be up to 29 years

How It Works

The Parent Visa is designed to reunite parents with their children in Australia, on a permanent basis. Sponsors must provide written proof that they can support, accommodate and assist the parent for whom the visa is being granted. The main applicant is able to include family members on the application, however this will incur additional fees.

Duration

The permanent Parent Visa (Subclass 103) allows the holder to stay in Australia with their children permanently.

Elibility

You cannot hold this visa if you hold or have applied for a Sponsored Parent Visa (subclass 870). You must have an eligible sponsor, and at least half of your children must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. There should be more of your children residing in Australia than in any other country. You must also meet the health and character requirements, as is necessary to hold any Australian visa.
